Alejandro Aravena graduated in architecture from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile in 1992, before founding his own practice, Alejandro Aravena Architects, in 1994. He was awarded the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2016.
In recent years, his practice has been at the forefront of tackling climate-induced housing crises by developing rapid reconstruction plans using modular prefabrication—as demonstrated following the 2024 Viña del Mar wildfires.
At the 2025 Venice Biennale, his practice pioneering sustainable designs incorporating Net-Zero Biochar Concrete, reinforcing a design philosophy that seamlessly blends economy, functionality, social participation, and environmental sustainability.
