A concrete commitment to sustainability: the journey towards ISO 20121 certification
Cersaie – International Exhibition of Ceramic Tile and Bathroom Furnishings, a global benchmark for the world of ceramics, bathroom furniture, surface coverings and interior and exterior finishes, has embarked on a journey towards ISO 20121 certification, the international standard for sustainable event management.
What is ISO 20121?
ISO 20121 is a globally recognised certification developed specifically for the events sector. Its goal is to minimise the environmental, social and economic impacts of events by promoting more responsible, transparent and resource-conscious management practices. But it goes beyond simply reducing waste or emissions, instead encouraging a systemic approach that engages all stakeholders in the value chain, from organisers and exhibitors to suppliers and visitors.
Why we chose this path
As an international meeting point that each year brings together manufacturers of ceramic surfaces, sanitaryware and bathroom furnishings, parquet, doors and finishes, along with retailers, wholesalers, architects and installers, we believe we have a responsibility to lead the transition towards a more sustainable future.
Trade fairs have always been places for networking, innovation and design, and that’s precisely where we want to start: by making each edition increasingly environmentally conscious, inclusive and capable of generating positive value for the local area and everyone involved.
What does this mean in practice?
Our journey towards ISO 20121 involves adopting sustainable practices at every stage of organisation, with short-, medium- and long-term targets in mind:
Environmental sustainability -> Reducing and responsibly managing waste; optimising energy and water consumption; encouraging the use of public and/or shared transport
Social sustainability -> Promoting measures to ensure people’s safety throughout the event; ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all participants
Sustainable governance -> Ethical business practices; transparency and responsible financial management; working with exhibitors, sponsors and suppliers who share our values
Monitoring impacts and continuous improvement and sharing the results with all stakeholders.
All of this will be achieved without compromising on the quality of the experience we offer but instead enhancing it through a more ethical, innovative and forward-thinking approach.
An invitation to the Cersaie community
This journey is not ours alone, it’s an open invitation to everyone involved in the exhibition, whether exhibitors, designers, stand builders, professionals or visitors. Together we can make a difference by creating an event that not only showcases the best in design and technology but does so with awareness and responsibility.
The future is sustainable. And it starts here.
