Antonio Citterio - Cersaie 2006

I wanted to convey my approach to contemporary architecture through the concept of the golden section expressed in a precise artistic language.
The image consists of an abstract geometric shape with an indistinct border, arranged horizontally in accordance with strict rules of proportion to express nothing other than the complete internal cohesion of the shape itself, in other words structure shorn of all expressive intentions.

Antonio Citterio was born in Meda in 1950 and graduated in architecture from Milan Polytechnic.

An internationally acclaimed figure in the industrial design sector, he currently works with Italian and foreign companies including Albatros - Sanitec Group, Ansorg, Arclinea, Axor - Hansgrohe, B&B Italia, Flexform, Flos, Fusital, Guzzini, Iittala, Inda, Kartell, Maxalto, Metalco, Pozzi Ginori - Sanitec Group, Skantherm, Tre Più, Vitra and Wall.

In 1999 he founded Antonio Citterio and Partners, a multidisciplinary design firm operating in the fields of architecture, industrial design and graphic design. The founding partners were Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel.

The design firm develops projects for residential and commercial complexes, industrial facilities, conservative restoration of public buildings, workspace planning, offices, showrooms and hotels. It also operates in the field of company communication and creates coordinated image and graphic design projects.

Recent projects include: the headquarters of Edel Music on the river Elba; the B&B Italia Research and Development Centre with showrooms and offices in Novedrate; the coordinated image project for De Beers (London, Tokyo, New York and Los Angeles); the Bulgari Hotel in Milan; remodelling of the historic Palazzo Comunale in Clusone, which faces onto Piazza dell’Orologio; the project for the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline’s Verona centre; projects for two single-family residences in Sardinia and Switzerland.

Work in progress includes: construction of Bulgari Hotels and Resorts in Bali; the project for a new Technogym Village in Cesena (production facility, offices and administrative centre); redevelopment of Ex Riva Calzoni in Milan as a tertiary and hospitality area; projects for new public squares in Busto Arsizio and Rozzano; project for the rehabilitation of the Molo Guardiano Sud quay in Marina di Ravenna after winning the architectural competition launched by the Ravenna Port Authority.
